Family members in German

Most family words come in pairs: der Onkel and die Tante, der Neffe and die Nichte, der Enkel and die Enkelin. Geschwister (brothers and sisters) and Großeltern (grandparents) are plural-only. Mann and Frau also mean husband and wife, so mein Mann is my husband. Of these 36 words, 15 are among the 5,000 most common; the other 21 are basic words, marked with a dash.
