Rooms and furniture in German

Rooms built on Zimmer take its gender, so they are all das: das Schlafzimmer, das Wohnzimmer, das Badezimmer. Die Wohnung is a flat or apartment, das Haus a whole house. Furniture mostly stands (stehen) or hangs (hängen) rather than simply being somewhere: Die Lampe hängt über dem Tisch. Of these 32 words, 18 are among the 5,000 most common; the other 14 are basic words, marked with a dash.
